I really can’t believe I’m writing this.  ”I didn’t vote today.”  Today was our town election, and one of my Democrat cohorts was running for office.  I should have taken the time to run downtown to vote, but somehow the ennui set in, and all I wanted was to drive straight home from work without taking the extra half an hour it would have taken me to drive downtown and vote.

I’m hoping this is not a sign that I’m becoming one of those complacent citizens who  is just not motivated to vote.  I’ve voted in every election since I was old enough to do so.  I’d hate to think that this is the start of my becoming so cynical and apathetic and hopeless that I will start finding reasons not to vote.  I was tired, I wanted to go home…..let’s hope that was all it was.

I think that once the Presidential campaign is in full swing,  I’ll again be energized to not only vote. but work with my local Democrat party to try to ensure that our current President gets re-elected.  I truly believe that any other outcome will spell disaster.

Did you have a local or state election today?  Did you vote?

Lest you think I’ve given up on art altogether…….some spring for you all

Attack of the Robots and other things……….

Just sent my two sons the following link  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-G3RoBHMu-o&feature=g-u-u   For those of you worrying about how to combat the attack of the robots, this one’s for you!  BTW, I did not send it to my daughter or daughter-in-law….guess I’m not quite the feminist I thought I was….

.Today was actually a busy day at work (more about that in a different post), but did spend the day “scrubbing data” on one of our client-tracking databases.  Yawn.  Amazing how much information is required to validate a federal or state-funded program.  And even more amazing how much data is spurious because of the requirements.

I did have a run-in with Verizon today….called to see about their participation in the Connect to Compete program which was supposed to supply low-income families (with children in the Federal lunch program) with low-cost internet and the ability to buy laptops for approximately $150.  Got nowhere…customer service hadn’t heard a thing about it.  Comcast requires that you have not had Comcast  internet within 90 days to qualify.  This eliminates any family who purchased internet through Comcast and are now held to the regular consumer rate.  In order to qualify, they have to discontinue their Comcast internet for 90 days.  Can we see the irony in this?  If anyone out there has more info on this program, please let me know.

Off for the night…sweet dreams!  And may they all come true.

Today was one of those treasure days.  I spent it with my dear friend, Doris.  She’s a fellow artist and one of my greatest inspirations.  She calls me every once in a while to do an “artist date”, which includes a lot of fun stuff as well as actually doing some work on our art.  Doris works in collage and encaustic…an awesome combination!  She’s also an executive coach.  She’s been my cheerleader for the last few years as I’ve transitioned from wife-of-30-years to single, independent woman.

For our “artist date” we spent time at Purple Sage Pottery in Merrimac MA.  This is a group of potters who are outstanding.  Today was their show/sale, and the wares they had for sale were extraordinary.  I was able to get a gorgeous robin’s egg blue mug with Celtic designs, a tiny toothpick holder (which is great for fireplace matches) and a wonderful square vase with the image of trees on it.  I also purchased a piece of Racu a Japanese potting technique which involves removal of pieces from the kiln while still glowing hot. In the traditional Japanese process, the fired raku piece is removed from the hot kiln and is allowed to cool in the open air or in a container filled with combustible material.   My piece is very organic, and still smells of the combustion process.  I love it!!

Oh yeah, and I actually worked on some pieces of art today!  One is a small watercolor of  lily of the valley, one a graphic of  a storm coming over the marsh in Newburyport, and the other is…well I’m not sure exactly what it will be!  Time will tell.

Great day, over all.   Wishing you a blessed Sunday.

Meg

Have decided to move my focus from visual art to written observations.  I had a blog once about politics, but this will be something different…a kind of daily testing of the waters of my life.  I hope that you’ll be interested in what I have to say, and the links I provide.  There is no focus here….you never know what you’ll find!  You might even find some new art once in a while!  Leave comments, please.  They are what makes a blog live.

Newest. Finally

It’s been a long time coming, but I’m back in the art world and working again…albeit slowly! Life and time have taken a toll over the past year or so, and I’m finally able to think about my art again and spend more time with my beloved artist friends who are always such an inspiration.

Hope you’ll enjoy what’s here from the first days. I’ll get the newer stuff up and running as soon as I can.

Just to let you all know that I haven’t disappeared from the face of the earth. I have been working, but can’t seem to get pictures taken and downloaded. Art is such a soulful thing, and I’m finding the vagaries of life interfering with my creative process. Never fear! I’ll be back with a vengeance….just a little more time needed.

This is one of those paintings that started out as something else, and ended up being what it wanted to be. It was especially fun working with these colors.

I enjoyed doing this one as spring approached.  Liked the idea of the light arising out of the darkness of winter.
